 Cooking for One or Two

 You have the basic strategies down, shopping is under control, so, cooking can be a simple process. Right? Well . . . you may still face         challenges: a tight budget, a crowded schedule or loneliness at meal time. Take heart! Whatever your circumstances, you can meet these        challenges with success.

 Janet Godby, family nutrition program assistant, Shelby County’s Purdue Extension Service, will present some ideas on how to meet the challenges faced whether you are cooking for one, two or a crowd, and ways to make cooking in any quantity easy and fun.

 Tax Season Is Coming!

 

Now is a good time to organize receipts and find copies of last year’s tax forms in preparation of the 2008 tax season.

The IRS-AARP Volunteer Tax Program will start the first Wednesday in February and continue through tax day in April.

Volunteer tax preparers will fill in basic tax forms for senior citizens in Shelby County. More details will be announced in next month’s Horizons newsletter, and sign-up times will be available at Shelby Senior Services, 398-0127.

Movin' Along Exercise

Every Wednesday, 10:30 am in the Senior Center, 320 4th St.
Join this gentle 30-minute exercise program that tones the muscles in the arms and legs while seated in a chair. You will be surprised and pleased with the results!

Support for Visually Impaired

 

The Visually Impaired People (VIP) support group meets the third Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m. in McKay Manor Retirement Community, 1473 E. McKay Rd.

The group, which offers encouragement to others suffering from vision loss, is open to visually impaired people, their friends, their families and caregivers. The meetings provide a time for VIPs to socialize while sharing information about benefits, products and services for the visually impaired.

Every Thursday from 1:00-3:00PM at Blue River Lanes 1601 S. Miller Street, Shelbyville
3 Games & shoe rental for just $8.00
If you have your own shoes or bowl fewer than 3 games, the cost is $2.50 per game. Come and join us! If the step down into the bowling area keeps you from coming, let us know. Blue River Lanes staff will place a ramp there. Wheelchair bound? The ramp allows you to bowl, too! So, come on - join us for an afternoon of exercise, companionship and laughter.
